My Fellow Americans,
Today is election day. Unless you’ve been under an actual rock for the last year, you already know the stakes.
If you are planning to vote today, please take a moment now to do anything you need to do to make sure you can execute on your plan. Look up your polling site, check the weather, find whatever ID your state requires, plan for childcare if needed (kids can come to the polls, too!), and bring some snacks and water in case there are lines. And as a reminder, as long as you are in line before polls close, you should be able to vote.
If you are not currently registered or have moved since you last registered, many states allow same-day registration. Your county clerk’s office will be your most reliable resource for what you need to do.
If you have an mail-in or absentee ballot you have not yet returned, please make your plan right now for how you will submit it before polls close. (If you can’t find your ballot, you should still be able to vote a provisional ballot in-person.)
If you voted by mail, please check on your ballot status. If something is wrong with it, you should still be able to cast a provisional ballot at your polling site.
If you voted early in-person, you’re done.
Text or call a friend or family member to check in with them and see if they’ve voted yet.
To every American who has or will cast their vote by the times polls close, thank you for doing your part in this messy and imperfect system of American democracy.
May it continue, and may it grow by the power of our voices.
We’re all in this together.
—Maria
